As the title to this article suggests, there’s snow in those hills. Skiing is becoming ever more popular in China, especially with the expat community. The Chinese have invested a lot of capital in developing this winter pastime over the past ten years. They have received expert guidance from various European companies from the countries of Austria, Germany, and France.

Skiing is a great way to get out of your apartment, get exercise and meet new people. Here are a few places that are easy to get to and won’t break the bank.

If you live in and around Tianjin there are several resorts where you enjoy skiing. Yulong is Tianjin's first large-scale ski resort, featuring slopes for all ages and skill levels. They've also hired ski instructors from the famous Yabuli Ski Resort in Harbin so you can brush up on your skills, or learn a new one. To get there, take a bus from the Tianjin Hebei Coach Station (which leaves every 15 minutes from 6:00-19:00) to Ji County Coach Station, and then get a taxi to the Yulong Ski Resort.

If you want something more difficult you can go to Jizhou International Ski Resort. This is the only ski resort in Tianjin which has beginner, intermediate, advanced, and circular ski slopes. Jizhou is equipped to meet the demands of almost any skier. The skill level of skiers here is generally higher than at Yulong. You can get there by taking a bus from the Tianjin Hebei Coach Station (which leaves every 15 minutes from 6:00-19:00) to Ji County Coach Station, and then get a taxi to the Jizhou International Ski Resort.

If you are looking for something a bit more conveniently located, you can consider the Shuidi Ski Centre. It is located in the Olympic Centre inside the city limits, Shuidi is the most easily accessible place to ski in Tianjin. The slopes are completely manmade though not many in quantity. For that reason Shuidi is perhaps best suited for children and beginner skiers. To get there take bus No. 8, 301, 302, 306, 1, and 2 to the Olympic Sport Centre.
