Snow Polo World Cup 2014




Tianjin Metropolitan Polo Club and the Federation of International Polo (FIP) have hosted, for the third year running, the most important polo event in China, the Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cup.

This unique event, attracting thousands of guests and media coverage from China and overseas, is supported by the equestrian Association of China.


Asia’s first and only snow polo tournament and the largest of its kind in the world, the Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cup is becoming one of the most talked about events in the international polo calendar, carrying on the prestigious tradition of snow polo first established on the frozen expanse of Lake St. Moritz in the 1985.


Teams from eleven nations (Australia, England, Mexico, Chile, Spain, New Zealand, USA, France, Canada, Brazil, South Africa) and one special administrative region (Hong Kong China Team) were invited, making it one of the largest tournaments ever. The 14-16 goal handicap teams were competing over ten match days. During the group stage, every team played three games of three chukkas each, with four of them being eliminated whilst eight progressing to the quarterfinals. The final was held on 19 January.


Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club, the largest polo facility in China, has state of the arts installations, including the club’s hotel which is a peerless architectural masterpiece with superior materials and design. The club also comes with a team of internationally renowned trainers and an exceptional stable with 202 ponies selected from the finest bloodlines.


For this special tournament, a series of events and entertainments have been prepared to provide guest the most amazing polo experience. Every day the doors were open at 12pm, three games were presented and guest were also able to indulge themselves with a selection of international cuisine and drinks. Outside, an endless stream of entertainment ensured a party atmosphere around the tournament field. Snow games and slides were provided for the young ones to play.


Before and between the games, music was filling the air. The Buenos Aires Marching Band, consisting of members from the most prestigious orchestras in Argentina, provided stunning performances while the Buenos Aires Opera Show has flew all the way from Argentina to Tianjin to provide top-class music shows, from classical operas to Broadway musical songs.


Tianjin Goldin Polo club is dedicated to further promoting this sport to polo lovers of all ages. Another three tournaments will be held during 2014, and all the events are guaranteed to be exciting and super-high standard. 2014 will be another amazing year for polo in China and another great opportunity for Tianjin to promote itself as a world class location for big sporting events.
