My Style Notes - Items To Fall In Love With

The fur shrug

Capture the mood for vintage glamour with a furry cape or stole. This year you can go for dip-dye rainbow colours or dramatic stoles bristling over a day jacket.

The high street is offering an array of chic faux fur stoles so you don’t have to wade into the fur debate this winter.

The velvet dress

A long time ago, only the wives or daughters of nobles were allowed to wear velvet. The velvet dress still exudes a medieval toughness, but this season’s parade of velvet dresses in stained-glass hues and deep-blue looped-lace style thankfully flatters all.

Anything pink

Neon or pastel pink, even the palest suggestion of our new favourite hue can shock and thrill in equal measure. This is a refreshing option to inject a flash into dark winter colours, grey, black and navy. Pink is the colour of the season and the pink coat in all possible styles have been the chosen option for all the stylists out there.

The bustier dress

The bustier dress stands out as the season’s mysterious seductress. Think demure midi- lengths and tweedy day fabrics contrasted with body-contouring cuts. Team with a white shirt for a dramatic daytime spin, or covers your shoulders with a furry stole for a party night out.

The full skirt

Meet the softer, more glamorous side if the skirt story, with the nostalgic full skirt. Printed or plain, volume is the important part. Try one on and enjoy the immediate effect, belt it and add ladylike heels to flatter the mid length.

The embellished sweater

The dressy sweater has style. There’s nothing complicated about pulling on a sweater, so adding some jewels and details to a simple item is the easiest option to dress smartly for everyday wear. There are some gorgeous options out there right now, like cashmere style with subtle beading or some studded pullovers. The best thing about embellishment sweaters is the fact that you could easily wear them with your boyfriend’s jeans for a casual look or leather leggings for a date night ready look.

The new creeper

The rebellious cool of the brothel creeper has piqued our interest in the last seasons. With an array of well-executed takes-penny loafers, brogues and gleaming oxfords, they are a desirable and comfier alternative to towering heels. If you are looking to add a pair of these thick-soles shoes to your wardrobe, the best option is with skinny jeans to balance proportions and don’t forget to add some feminine details, such as jewellery or red lipstick.

The dressing gown coat

The sweeping duster coat that caught our imaginations for spring gets a seductive twist with glorious dressing gown details that are too good to keep confinec to the bedroom. As temperatures drop, tie a generous mannish coat with a silken cord.
