The Philadelphia Orchestra Concert Brings Special Love to Tianjin



It is believed that the Philadelphia Orchestra is well-known among the whole world and is quite familiar to lots of people. With 112 years of history, the Philadelphia Orchestra serves as the world-class “Super Symphony Orchestra”. From the group’s debut in China in 1973, 40 years has passed. For the 40-year anniversary, the Philadelphia Orchestra held a commemorative concert - Donald Runnicles and Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra Concert at Tianjin Grand Theatre, aimed at bringing the “Zero-distance and Zero-jet lag” concert for Tianjin citizens and to express special love to Tianjin.

During the two days long performance event in Tianjin on 4 and 5 June, the Philadelphia Orchestra’s musicians approached Tianjin local communities, attractions and schools to dedicate several high level concert shows for Tianjin people. The Philadelphia Orchestra changed into seven Chamber Music groups, and performed in the Italian Style Town, Qing Wang Fu, The Astor Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Tianjin, Crystal City, Fuyu Plaza, Tianjin University of Science & Technology, Tianjin University of Technology and Education, No. 41 Middle School and Galaxy International Shopping Mall. This enabled people to appreciate the top-class symphony concert while they were hanging around.

On the evening of 5 June, the unique symphony concert - Donald Runnicles and Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra Concert was perfectly presented in the Tianjin Grand Theatre. This successful concert included the regular indoor performance- as well as the outdoor “Summer-time Concert”. Taking advantage of LED high definition big screen, about 2,000 audience members enjoyed the wonderful concert on the 6-metre high platform close to the water, along with the 1,200 audience members indoor appreciating this fabulous concert. 

Mr. Song Benjing, the deputy manager of Tianjin Grand Theatre shared that “To guarantee the live sound effect, we rented the display screen with high definition which covers an area of more than 240 square metres. 6 camera platforms and 16 high quality speakers were set up in the concert hall to ensure the outdoor display effect”. All the classical music enthusiasts were really excited by the costly audio-visual feast. During the interval, the beautiful music fountain in the Tianjin Cultural Centre pushed the concert to a new high. After the concert ended, Mr. Donald Runnicles, the director of the orchestra concert also marvelled at the giant screen, saying that “It’s amazing!”
