Sleeping in the Clouds.

The Tallest Hotels in the World

By Andy Marsh

TP 201907 FEATURE 12 2If you are on the hunt for hotels that pierce the white bottom of clouds, hotels that stand at incredible heights, we recommend you travel to Asia or the Middle East. These hotels allow you to have a bird's eye view of beautiful cities and water bodies, even if itis just for a fleeting moment.

While some of us will never see the inside of these buildings, we have rounded up some of the hotels for a small taste of the high-life.

But, what makes a high hotel?

Seeing as all of the highest hotels are in mixed-use skyscrapers, we have used the highest occupied floorsin our ranking. Therefore, don't expect the Burj Khalifa, as its Armani hotel only occupies up to the 39th floor.

If you are in a hurry, here is a quick overview of the tallest hotels.

1. Ritz Carlton Hong Kong

TP 201907 FEATURE 01Topping our list is the Ritz Carlton hotel in Hong Kong. It is housed in the 490m tall International Commerce Centre, and it occupies the top 17 floors of the 118-floor building. The hotel offers unique views of the Victoria harbour and the superb skyline of the Hong Kong Island.

Its best features, though, are that it has the highest pool and bar in the world. Located on the 118th floor, the pool feels like a blue oasis in the sky. There are plenty of lounge chairs around the pool with some in the shallow section near the windows, so guests can sit down and peer into the world.

Another exciting feature is the outdoor Jacuzzi. However, it has one shortcoming in, that it is in a remote location and you have to take a taxi to and from.

2. Park Hyatt Shanghai

TP 201907 FEATURE 03If you are on the hunt for a hotel that is conveniently located, we recommend the Park Hyatt in Shanghai. It is the second tallest hotel located from the 79th to the 93th floors of the 鈥淭he Vertical Complex City鈥 or the Shanghai World Financial Centre. The Park Hyatt is only 15 minutes away from the Lujiazui metro station and some of Shanghai鈥檚 attractions.

You will also appreciate that you will be staying in a landmark of sorts, as the building itself is renowned for the trapezoid aperture at the peak. Finally, it boasts unique views of the Shanghai Skyline and the Huangpu river. We recommend it for business travellers thanks to its convenient location.

3. St. Regis Shenzhen

TP 201906 ST REGIS SHENZHENLocated from the 75th floor through to the 100th, of Shenzhen鈥 tallest building, the KK100, the St. Regis is one of the most spectacular hotels in the world. The hotel is nestled within the Luohu district financial centre, and we recommend it for corporate travellers. Even the rooms are designed to accommodate people travelling for work, as they include a work station.

You will also appreciate the ab grand atrium spanning the hotel and the spectacular natural beauty of Shenzen.

4. Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou

TP 201907 FEATURE 08The Four Seasons occupies the top third of the 439m tall Guangzhou International Finance Center. The rooms are from the 74th floor to the 98th floor and have floor to ceiling windows for a fantastic view of the city or the pearl river.

The hotel's design is inspired by nature and has lush landscapes around the entrance. Natural light fills every space thanks to the all window fa莽ade and the 30-floor atrium.

5. Grand Hyatt Shanghai

TP 201907 FEATURE10If you are in Shanghai and interested in great views, you should consider the Grand Hyatt. The hotel occupies the floors 53-87 of the Jinmao Tower. It is in the central of Shanghai and easily accessible. It is also close to tourist attractions, such as the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium and the 100th floor observation deck at the Shanghai World Financial Centre.

One exciting feature of the hotel is the longest laundry shoot; about a quarter mile long that it requires air buffers to slow sheets down.

TP 201907 FEATURE 14The race for the tallest hotels doesn't stop here. These might be some of the highest hotels, but we are confident there are more under construction. One that is likely to generate a lot of buzz is the Shanghai J-Hotel in the Shanghai Tower.

The Shanghai Tower joins the Jin Mao Tower, and SWFC creating the world's first adjacent grouping of three supertall buildings. The 258-room J-Hotel will occupy floors 84th through 110th, and at the time of completion it will be the highest in the world. The tower will also incorporate a museum and its sub level parking will provide parking for 1,800 vehicles.

We will be sure to let you know when it opens. Also, we welcome you to leave your thoughts or questions in the comments below, and we will get back to you.
