It may sound strange to visit the land of tea, and start looking for a coffee shop, but we all want our delicious caffeine fix.

TP 201811 Beijing 02

Ask any Beijingren where they go for coffee and relaxation, and you鈥檙e likely to hear about Cafe Zarah. That鈥檚 because this stylish cafe has something for everyone, with great coffee, not to mention Western and Chinese meals. The decor is almost like a Brooklyn coffee shop transported to an old-fashioned Beijing house, with comfortable outdoor seating during good weather. There are also art shows and occasional musical evenings.

Wait, wasn鈥檛 Central Perk in Manhattan? No, the coffee shop is not just for fictional New Yorkers! There鈥檚 an adorable replica of the famous Friends coffee shop in Beijing!

Of course, a visit to Central Perk is more for the ambiance, nostalgia and photo ops, but the coffee and baked treats are quite good, too. Make your way to Chaowai SOHO for your nostalgia and coffee needs. So, call up your best friends, dress up in your best nineties fashion, and meet at Central Perk.

Missing your furry friends? Visit Maoxiaoyuan Cat Cafe for adorable kitty friends and cat-themed coffees. Cats roam all around in the coffee shop for patrons to feed, pet and play with. Have your coffee in a kitty mug or with a foam paw-print on top of your cappuccino -- made by your barista and not your feline friends! If you need your kitty fix and can鈥檛 make it to the cafe, you can always follow #maoxiaoyuan on Instagram for photos of the cute cats.

TP 201811 Beijing 05If you鈥檙e more in the mood for a quiet spot to study, work or just read, Bridge Cafe by Wudaokao is your spot. Enjoy wifi, coffee and meals here, but there鈥檚 competition for table space at peak times, when all the nearby foreign students also want to study over coffee. This all-night cafe with American style sandwiches and coffee is as close as you can get to a stateside diner.

And of course, there鈥檚 the reliable old Starbucks. You can get your latte fix all over town, under those familiar green awnings with that familiar mermaid logo. Homesick expats will be happy to know that a Beijing Starbucks latte uses exactly the same ingredients and recipes as a New York Starbucks latte. You can also enjoy Chinese variations on the Starbucks theme, like a stylish box of Starbucks mooncakes during the holidays. But that cup of Joe isn鈥檛 just a treat for homesick visitors; it鈥檚 a status symbol for local Chinese, so expect your tall mocha to cost more than a full meal at your neighborhood dumpling shop. You鈥檒l find Starbucks in Houhai, Haidian, Chaoyang, or wherever there鈥檚 high end shopping.

On your walks around Beijing, you might have noticed certain green and white awnings that aren鈥檛 in front of a Starbucks outlet. It鈥檚 SPR Coffee, a popular chain using branding that鈥檚 not quite Starbucks to advertise a western-style coffee shop. Prices are generally lower than a real Starbucks, but you can still get a pretty solid caffeine fix. Coffee here is actually brewed from beans, and not from a Nescafe packet.

Which coffee shops did we miss? What cafes should we check out for tomorrow鈥檚 cup of coffee? Let us know in the comments section!
