An exotic dining room, “DuDu Hai BATIK” is praised as a wonderland by obsessed foodies as it offers a cuisine from Hejia’s private kitchen. Named after an ancestral dyeing technique, a national treasure developed in Indonesia typically consisting of vibrant colours and exquisite patterns, it offers a fun high-quality cuisine that impregnates the restaurant's expression of giving life and in which products blend into forms and techniques that you have never been exposed to. Here at DuDu Hai Batik, they aim to put forth a rich cuisine whose recipes have endured through the ages just as this ancient art form, Batik. The English translation of the word being “to dot”, it has survived thousands of years by being passed down through many generations.

DuDu Hai Batik serves South East Asian cuisine with inspiration drawn mainly from Indonesia, a maritime culture without borders where fishing and cooking are part and parcel of daily life. This unique batik restaurant offers a menu that includes traditional Indonesian dishes and is a look back at the culinary and cultural heritage through taste. Led by several local chefs, DuDu Hai Batik leaves no doubt as to its authenticity as regards its taste, as even the bartender is a native-born Indonesian lady.

The dining room is divided into a number of lively spaces dazzled by batik fabric, creating a colourful labyrinth complemented by a lot of mirrors. The pattern emanates a chic but laidback dinning atmosphere.

Blended with exotic flavours at the Batik's stoves, the traditional taste and careful presentation take to the forefront. The food is based on a multitude of fresh spices and herbs and this truly is a huge contributing factor as to why the cuisine is so flavourful and exciting. The flavours vary from mind-popping-curry to dream-like-noodles.

Indonesian Lobster Slice is a divergent form of the Krupuk Udang (AKA shrimp puffs) and constitutes of lobster and flour. Usually connoisseurs don’t eat the lobster slice until the curry or Tom Yam Kung is served to dip in the soup with special flavour, which is an authentic and addictive Indonesian style of eating. The lobster slice retains plenty of crunchiness after a quick dip in the soup and is a pleasant surprise.

DuDu Hai’s signature dish, Crispy chicken with lime, is an outcome of one of the daintiest cooking methods by talented chefs. The thin skin of chicken is crisp and delicious, while the meat inside tastes tender and succulent, which all depends on the accurate control of the optimum temperature of oil and fire.

The secret is the genuinely ethnic satay sauce made with peanut butter, coconut sauce, juvenile prawns, pepper and many more top-secret ingredients. Another Indonesian essential, fried rice, which is better known as Nasi Goreng, is stir fried in a little margarine and oil and seasoned with crushed chili sambal, garlic and other ingredients. It is then mixed with kecap manis which gives the fried rice its unique Indonesian touch and is served with a plethora of accompaniments.

Other dishes include the Sishui Fried Crimson Snapper, one of my favourite dishes being a fish lover. It has an incredible flame roasted fire flavour owing to the fish being marinated and rubbed in sambal sauce. Stuffed Bun with Black Pepper Shredded Beef and Lettuce is an interesting dish requiring the use your fingers to enjoy each bite to your liking. Fried Prawns with Bali Curry and TomYam Seafood Soup are packed with alluring fragrance and sweet taste. Every menu item at DuDu Hai Batik highlights a strong traditional cultural link, reflecting the long history of Indonesian food culture and traditional features that the restaurant strives to highlight.
